Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure that effectively treats varicose and spider veins. It is often considered the treatment of choice for small varicose veins.

Sclerotherapy involves an injection of a solution directly into the vein. Your WISH MedSpa Nurse Practitioner will inject the ASCLERA medicated solution which irritates the lining of the blood vessel, causing it to collapse and stick together and the blood to clot. The collapsed vein is reabsorbed into local tissue and eventually fades.

After sclerotherapy, treated veins fade within a few weeks, although it may take a month or more to see full results. In some instances, several sclerotherapy treatments may be needed.

Why use sclerotherapy?

Sclerotherapy is often used for cosmetic purposes, but it can also improve the following symptoms:

  • Aching

  • Swelling

  • Burning

  • Night cramps

what are the risks with sclerotherapy?

Sclerotherapy is a safe procedure with very few complications. Some side effects that may occur at the injection site include:

  • Bruising

  • Raised red areas

  • Small skin sores

  • Darkened skin in the form of lines or spots

  • Multiple tiny red blood vessels

Side effects typically go away within a few days to several weeks.
